A DFB laser diode incorporates a built-in diffraction grating within the active region of the laser chip. This grating provides precise wavelength selection and suppresses unwanted side modes, enabling single longitudinal mode operation. As a result, DFB lasers deliver stable output wavelengths with minimal drift, even under varying temperature and operating conditions. This makes them ideal for dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) and high-speed transmission systems.
